State Key Laboratory of Brain and Cognitive Sciences

Updated: 2021-12-27

Introduction

The State Key Laboratory of Brain & Cognitive Sciences was established at the Institute of Biophysics in March 2005.

The laboratory focuses on the core facets of visual perception, and carries out innovative systematic research at multiple evolutionary, cognitive, and disciplinary levels. It is committed to constructing a brain and cognitive sciences platform utilizing ultra-high field magnetic resonance imaging and other imaging methods. It carries out translational research for preventing and treating brain and cognitive dysfunction and diseases and develops novel artificial intelligence technology. The laboratory has 76 members, including two academicians, four distinguished youth and two outstanding youth. Since its establishment, it has won one second prize at the National Natural Science Awards; one second prize at the National Science & Technology Progress Awards; and one first prize at the Chinese Medical Association Science & Technology Awards.

Main research areas

1. The theoretical framework of the “cognitive basic unit”: multiple evolutionary, cognitive, scale and disciplinary research;

2. Visual cognition, choice and learning and memory of Drosophila;

3. Cognitive molecular neural mechanism and cognitive impairment;

4. A brain and cognitive sciences platform utilizing ultra-high field magnetic resonance imaging and other imaging methods;

5. Cognition and neural mechanism of social information (face and biological movement).
